Aleta Ort Haslanger

SOUTH BEND - Aleta Ort Haslanger, residing in South Bend, passed away peacefully at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Southfield Village, surrounded by her loving and caring family.
She was 102 years old. She was born to Ernest Logan & Genora (Bachtel) Logan on the family farm in St. Joseph County, IN on June 5, 1913, and has lived in this community most of her life.
On May 19, 1935 in South Bend, she was united in marriage to H. Richard Ort. They enjoyed 36 years of marriage until his passing on October 11, 1971. Then in 1975, she married Martin Haslanger. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Eva Lupher, and three brothers, Foster, Don, and Carl Logan.
Mrs. Haslanger worked as a bookkeeper for Kresge's 5 & 10 Store in downtown South Bend from 1932-1940. In 1963, after raising her children, she joined Central State Bank in Lakeville, and worked there until her retirement in 1975. She was a member and Past Worthy Matron of Order of Eastern Star Chapter #479 in Lakeville, and was a longtime member of Lakeville United Methodist Church.
From 1985-2003, she enjoyed living in Florida. She then lived in Montana from 2004-2010, moving to Texas in 2011, and returned to this area in 2014.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Connie & Dr. Dennis Haslanger of Belgrade, MT; her sons and daughters-in-law, Larry M. & Carolyn Ort of Bremen, IN. and Ronald R. & Candice Ort of Plano, TX. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
Services celebrating the life of Aleta Haslanger will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 14, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Lakeville Chapel, 314 S. Michigan St., Lakeville. Rev. Brian White will officiate. She will be laid to rest at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home.
