Edna Hulvey Garber
Age: 99 • Mt. Sidney
Edna Hulvey Garber, 99, a lifelong resident of Mt. Sidney, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016. She enjoyed great health her entire life living on the family farm.
She was born on May 20, 1916 in Augusta County and was the daughter of the late John L. and Mary Rebecca Cline Hulvey.
Edna graduated from Mt. Sidney High School in 1934 and was crowned Miss Mt. Sidney in 1935. She was a homemaker and the oldest living member of Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren. In early years, she was a member of the local 4H chapter and also taught Sunday school at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren for many years. She was well known in the Mt. Sidney community for her talent of cooking for the local farming community.
On December 28, 1935 she married Vernon L. Garber who preceded her in death on January 12, 1997.
She is survived by a son, Lowell W. Garber, Sr. and wife,
Susan, of Mt. Sidney; grandchildren, Lowell Wayne Garber, Jr. and wife, Michelle, Brian Garber and wife, Menieka, Christine Michael and husband, Cameron; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Oscar, Paul and Roy Hulvey.
The family will receive friends 7-8:00 pm, Monday, March 14, 2016 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave. The casket will be closed.
Private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Weyers Cave Volunteer Fire Department.
