Lawrence Pereira, 84, a resident of Zachary passed away Friday April 1, 2016. He was born in Newport News, VA on August 22, 1931. He graduated the College of Music in Cincinnati, OH in 1952. He then joined the Air Force and served in Japan. Following the Air Force he worked for Bank of America where he worked on E.R.M.A. the first banking computer system. Upon retirement in 1992 he returned to music as an accompanist with the University of Arkansas. He was the organist of St. Agnes Church in Concord, CA, St. Joseph Church in Fayetteville, AR, and a pianist at the Bluffs in St. Francisville. A highlight was playing in the Vatican for Pope John Paul II. He is survived by his wife, Rita Pereira; three step-children, Thomas Sund, Annamarie Carroll, and Robert Sund; one daughter, Erikka Neal; a brother, James Pereira; 7 grandchildren, Megan Sund, Eric Sund, Nicholas Sund, Maria Sund, Michael Sund, Frances Neal and Samuel Neal; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Antonio and Louisa Pereira and 9 siblings. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in St. Francisville, LA. Visitation from 9-11 and Mass at 11. Our special thanks to the caregivers at Oakwood Village in Zachary, Dr. Kakarala from the War Vets' home, and the doctors and nurses at Lane Regional Medical Center.

Our deepest sympathies to the Lawrence Pereira family. We have fond memories of his visits to us many years ago in Indianapolis. Uncle Larry will be missed by us both.

Mr. Larry was such a kind and gentle man, who raised one of the best people I have ever known - his daughter Erikka. For this I'm truly grateful to have known him, and sad that he is no longer with us. His legacy will live on however in Erikka, Frances, and Sam. Many their many wonderful memories help ease the sadness. Wish I could be there to give you all hugs!
