I gratefully remember Mr. Carey's help with an annual fundraiser for Our Lady Queen of Hope Parish, Detroit, with a number of retired DPS personnel in the mid-seventies. Always gracious and very much hands on.

Thought and Prayers to family friends. Many fond memories growing up listening to Paul and Ernie every night on the radio..
April 14, 2016
As with so many thousands of other people, I was a Tigers fan, having grown up in Windsor, across the Detroit River. I had the privilege of listening to Paul for those 19 years on WJR. He and Ernie had the gift of making the Tigers come alive each night on the radio. He touched my life so often with his words that in August 1991, I took him out to lunch when the Tigers were in Toronto. In person, he was the same sort of guy one had grown accustomed to hearing over the microphone. It was not a case of one's hero having feet of clay when you met him. He was the real thing!....My condolences to the family. We have lost a true legend; and are all the poorer for his passing. Thanks Paul for all you did for us Tigers fans. I shall miss you!

The memory of Paul Carey working alongside Ernie Harwell will always be remembered as an institution within our homes and for the Detroit Metropolitan area. Mr. Carey defined what sports and society was all about with his analysis, anecdotes and attention to detail. God bless Paul Carey for making a radio voice in baseball a visual entertainment form.
