Charles Haywood Overcash, 95, of Salisbury, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center Northeast in Concord. He was born April 14, 1921 to the late James Albert Sherrill Overcash and Carrie Bost Overcash in Rowan County. Charles Haywood is a veteran of the United States Army. He served as a medic during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. After the service, he bought a dump truck and worked in various road construction projects for about 10 years. After that he went to work for Peeler Trucking Company in Faith as a mechanic, retiring in 1983. Charles Haywood enjoyed gardening, and traveling with his wife in the Airstream Club. He was a member of Organ Lutheran Church, and the Men's Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Roseman Overcash; daughter, Shelia O. Lalane; and sister, Beatrice Meritt. Charles is survived by two sons, Timothy J. Overcash and wife Wendy of Salisbury and Michael H. Overcash of Atlanta, Ga.; three granddaughters, Tuesday Overcash, Casey Coates and husband Lee and Roxy Overcash; two grandsons, Adam Overcash and wife Natalie and Spencer Black; great-grandson, Axeson Overcash; brother, Loy Overcash; and two sisters, Faynell Crowe and Janet Jordan and husband Jim. Visitation: Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Powles Staton Funeral Home, Rockwell. Funeral Services: Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the Organ Lutheran Church, Salisbury, with Rev. Carlin Ours, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites provided by the Rowan County Honor Guard and the NC National Guard. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Organ Lutheran Church, 1515 Organ Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.
