Harry A., 94, of Tinton Falls died peacefully on Sunday, April 17, 2016.
Born in North Tonawanda, NY, he was a longtime Clifton resident before moving to Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls in 2005. A 1940 graduate of Flushing HS in Queens, Harry excelled in baseball and basketball and later played semi-pro baseball in the Queens Alliance League. After graduation, he was employed in the construction department of Consolidated Edison in NYC for 48 years retiring in 1988 as Superintendent of the Manhattan Gas Engineering Division. Harry is a US Coast Guard Veteran of WW II who served for 3 years in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters of Operation. He is a member, former deacon and elder of the United Reformed Church of Clifton where he and his beloved wife, Minnie were married in 1949. Harry later participated in the Protestant Community at Seabrook Village where he also served as a council member on their resident's committee. He was an avid bowler and a member of several sanctioned leagues while in Passaic County. Harry is survived by his loving wife of 66 years the former, Minnie (Pruiksma), by a daughter, Barbara Lawton and husband, William of Holland, MI, by two sons, Harry A. and wife, Hedy of Sayreville and Robert and wife, Aileen of Rolesville, NC, by 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, by two brothers, Hillary G. of Levittown, NY and Kenneth D. of Northport, NY, by a brother in law, Walter Pruiksma and wife, Claire of Brick, and by many nieces and nephews. Private funeral services will be held under the direction of Allwood Funeral Home, Clifton prior to burial at Cresthaven Memorial Park. Memorial donations in Harry's name to the Good Shepherd Mission, 336 Broadway, Paterson, NJ 07513 are preferred to flowers. allwoodfuneralhome.com
