Randy Fontenot Obituary

Randy Fontenot

OPELOUSAS - Randy Fontenot, age 60, of Lawtell passed away on April 29, 2016 at Opelousas General Hospital. He was born to George and Jane Fontenot on June 12, 1955 and was the fourth of nine children. As a teenager, Randy began galloping horses for his grandfather, Alphonse Fontenot. He went on to ride horses at local bush tracks for a few years, but his interest in horse racing continued throughout his life. On February 21, 1976 he married Jamie Grimmett and together they had 3 loving children. Randy's work life began on their family farm, next as an oilfield worker and continued as a truck driver until his early retirement because of health conditions. Some of his favorite times were spent with his children and grandchildren, watching his oldest grandson playing baseball and basketball, or visiting with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jamie Fontenot; his father, George Fontenot; son, Billy Fontenot; daughter, Randi Lyn (John Eric) Fontenot; son, Tracy Fontenot and fiancé, Bryxane Cormier; sister, Diana (Darrel) Vidrine; brothers, Gerald (Mary) Fontenot; Michael Fontenot; sister, Jennifer Fontenot. Grandchildren to "Papa" are Talan Fontenot, Ellie Fontenot, Mary Katherine Fontenot, Jolie Fontenot, Mathen Fontenot; Godchildren, Angelle Schott, John Lewis Lejeune, Natalie Fontenot and Jonathan Fontenot; 29 nieces and nephews; 35 great nieces and nephews and a very special person, Blake Winn.

Randy is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jane Fontenot; paternal grandparents, Alphonse and Helena Fontenot; his maternal grandparents, Amos and Easter Francois; his brothers, John, Kenneth, Steven and Jimmie Fontenot.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2016, beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, La. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday by Father Austin Leger. Services will continue at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 2016, until time of service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Lawtell at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Ted Broussard will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will take place in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Billy Fontenot, Tracy Fontenot, John Eric Fontenot, Jordan Fontenot, Jonathan Fontenot and Dylan Fontenot.
