Fred Hutnak, 80, of Uxbridge passed away peacefully in his home early Thursday morning, May 12th. He was the husband of Arlene M. (Johnson) Hutnak. They were happily married for 59 years. Mr. Hutnak spent most of his life as a heavy equipment operator. Many of those years were alongside his son Gary. Prior to that he was an inspector at the General Motors Assembly plant in Framingham. Fred was born on February 28, 1936 in Nasonville RI, a son of the late Veronika (Gallik) Hutnak. He attended Burriville High School, Burriville RI. He was a member of the Co. B, 118th Eng. Bn. (Combat) National Guard Unit, Woonsocket, RI being the youngest member to complete the Engineering Equipment Maintenance Course at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Fred was a faithful member of Saint Marys Church in Uxbridge. His passion was moving rocks and dirt. Much enjoyment came from travelling the country via motor home with his wife and family. He loved all animals great and small. Throughout his life he contributed to the community in many ways including funding equipment purchases for local emergency services, sponsoring a girls softball team and providing services and donations to St. Marys Parish. In addition to his wife Arlene, Fred is survived by his son Gary M. and his wife Wendy Hutnak of Uxbridge, two daughters Kathleen M. Mercure of Uxbridge, Wendy Alena and her husband Glenn Davis of Marlborough, one brother Vincent and his wife Uta Hutnak of Pullman WA, two sisters, Helen and her husband John Ammerman of Nasonville RI and Mary Cardillo of Cranston RI, one sister-in-law Julia Hutnak of Nasonville RI; 6 grandchildren, Eric Hutnak, Brandy Belmas, Amy and Kasey Mercure, Sasha May and Dottie Rose Davis, 2 great grandchildren, Hunter and Garrett Belmas and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 brothers Joseph Gallik, Joseph Hutnak, John Hutnak and 1 sister Katherine Francis. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, May 15, 2016 from 2-4 PM at the Buma Funeral Home, 101 No. Main St., Uxbridge. Funeral services will be private. I guess God had a greater need in heaven for an experienced heavy equipment operator. My condolences to Arlene and family. Sorry I'm out of the country and cannot attend Fred's wake.
