Frances Stroba diCarlo, 96, Lake Forest, died on May 11, 2016. Frances was born December 15, 1919 to Frank and Rose Stroba in the beautiful fruit land of Berrien County, Michigan. She grew up with her brother George, and sisters Mary (Lucker), Adeline (Dougherty) and Dorothy whose adult life was spent on Chicago's Gold Coast. She graduated from St Joseph High School and earned a degree at the University of Michigan in Elementary Education. Teaching was her passion, and she taught for 40 years in Michigan, Connecticut, and at the US Military Base in the Azores. In 1980 she retired to Old Port Cove, North Palm Beach, Florida, where she enjoyed membership in the Yacht Club and the Palm Beach Symphony Group. She leaves in fond memory Libuse Krapkova, her cousins and the family of Slavka Suda of the Czech Republic, where she spent many wonderful holidays at the Central Hotel in Prague. She loved Palm Beach and the Chesterfield Hotel, where she vacationed frequently. She is survived by her daughter, Michele Burgis, son-in-law Roger Burgis, and precious grandsons, Charles III and Roger Scott. A private family burial will be held at a later date. I just discovered the passing of your mother. She and my mother, Adeline Geipel Sheldon, grew up in Glenlord together and remained friends until my mother passed in March of 2014. I spoke to her at that time and she was very gracious and she sent me a lovely letter. I know Mom looked forward to her visits to Michigan with her sisters every summer. She always talked about how stylish your mother was, even when they were children. I am so sorry for your loss, but am glad that you had her for so many years. It is truly a blessing that so many of their generation lived well into their 90s. My deepest condolences.

Such loss can not be simply expressed by written words. Her lovely smile and extrovert nature, her energy and will to cross continents in order to visit us in the Czech Republic. Frances will never be forgotten. Even though she left our material world She is always with us. We mourn. Our most hearfelt condolences.

It was always a great day when Fran added her grace, style and sense of humor to any activity at Dickinson Hall or exciting trip to a cultural event in the City.
She was an important part of the Golden Years at the Senior Center.
Thank you for sharing her with us !!

It was a pleasure knowing Mrs.diCarlo for many years as she resided with her daughter in Meriden. She displayed the epitome of elegance and kindness. Michele and I have many loving memories of our mothers and hopefully they are reacquainted now in Heaven. Mrs diCarlo has set an example of how to grow old gracefully. I will miss the Christmas picture that was always so lovely. My love and heart belongs to Michele at this difficult time. Kim
