Jane Pinkerton Obituary

Jane R. Pinkerton

AGE: 78 • Newark, Delaware

Jane R. Pinkerton, age 78, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE, early Thursday morning after battling a rare blood disorder and is now at home with the Lord.

Born Jane Lois Risser in 1937 in Lititz, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ruth (Weaver) and Carl B. Risser of that town. She was a graduate of Lititz High School in 1955, and was elected by her classmates to be that year's Queen of the Candles for the 4th of July celebration there. Also in that year, she was a contestant in the Miss Pennsylvania contest as Miss Ephrata. She received many accolades from her friends simply because she was always so friendly. Jane grew up in Lititz and lived there until her marriage to Bruce Pinkerton in 1959, when they moved to Newark so Bruce could pursue an advanced degree at the University of Delaware.

Jane attended the Kingswood United Methodist Church in Newark where she quickly made many friends. She enjoyed volunteering in the kitchen there and serving in many ways. She and her husband were avid gardeners and antiques collectors and participated in various antiques shows over the years.

She is survived by her loving husband Bruce of 57 years and their three children, David B. Pinkerton of Zurich, Switzerland, and wife Ana, Susan P. Glynn and husband John of Camp Hill, PA and Jonathan N. Pinkerton and wife Diana of Newark, DE; eight grandchildren, twins William D. and Elisabeth C. Pinkerton of Peapack, NJ, Ana E. Glynn of New York City, Cara P. Glynn and Julia A. Glynn, both at home, Alexander J. Pinkerton, Jennifer Williams and husband Scott, and Jason Newman, all of Newark, DE. Jane is also survived by three sisters and brothers-in-laws, Margaret Herr (Melvin), Audrey Cochran (Robert), and Sue Stauffer (James) all of Lititz, PA, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother C. William Risser.

Jane will always be remembered as a loving, compassionate, thoughtful and giving person. She had a big heart and a pleasant upbeat personality that made her many friends who thought highly of her. She was a loving wife, comforting and supportive mother and a gentle, kind grandmother, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Kingswood United Methodist Church on June 25 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private in the family plot in Lititz.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jane's memory to the Kingswood United Methodist Church, 300 Marrows Road, Newark, DE 19713.

I will miss you. You have been such a caring person. It seems it was not that long ago that I used to visit with Aunt Sally and Uncle Neil. I will remember you as the young mother, as well as refinishing antiques, and the many family get togethers. I pray your spirit has a beautiful trip. You will remain in our hearts and memories.L

Bruce and family,

I met Jane at the Church,Kingswood United Methodist Church. She was a delight. She was a very special woman. Her smile would light up any room she was in. Always willing to help or lend an ear to anyone. I am sad though that our time was cut short because of her devastating illness. GOD sure has a great Angel now. Please know that anyone who met Jane is feeling her loss.

God Bless,

Jane was a loving, kind hearted woman.
I grew up next door to her and her children. I always felt welcome in her home.
Jane was very easy to talk to and I considered her a second mother.
She will be missed and will always be in my heart.

Sincere sympathy to Bruce and children - what a shock and what a lovely, upbeat person Jane was! I always loved your taste in antiques (and the ones you sold the Gredells - who live next door). I am SOOO sorry that her life was cut short. I'm so glad that you, Bruce, have that lovely doggie, "Beau" to keep you company! He is a lovely pet! (and remember that you will see Jane again someday in Heaven!)

Jane was a lovely person. She was kind, compassionate, and funny. We became fast friends once she started coming to Kingswood. She and I served on several missions together. When I was recovering from my devastating fall, she brought us the best vegetable soup and promised to give us her recipe. She will be missed......... especially when I look in that certain pew to see her smiling face. She is smiling down on us now. Prayers and condolences to her family.
