John Logan Downs Sr., 82, of Cox's Creek, died Saturday, June 4, 2016, at his residence. He was the son of the late Josh Edward and Catherine Bell Greenwell Downs, born April 12, 1934, in Nelson County. He was a retired employee of General Electric with 37-1/2 and years of service. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the Bardstown Moose Lodge, and was a farmer and an avid fisherman.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Evelyn Barlow; and a grandson, John Logan "Trey" Downs.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mabel Hall Downs; three sons, John L. "Bootie" (Charlotte) Downs Jr., of New Haven, William J. "Joey" (Dianna) Downs, of Bardstown, Jeffrey (Norma) Downs, of Cox's Creek; three sisters, Joann (Sonny) Spalding, Doris (Will) Constable, both of Bowling Green, and Patsy (Billy) Carney, of Mooresville; a brother, Billy (Ruby) Downs, of Cox's Creek; six grandchildren, Aimee Downs, Amanda Smith, Hallie Downs, Brianna Downs, Keith Tharp and John Logan Downs IV; five great-grandchildren, Addison Wethington, Sophia Downs, Wyatt Downs, Gracie Girdley and Abby Girdley; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fairfield. The Rev. Jason Harris will celebrate. Interment will be in St. Michael Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Monday, June 6, at Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield with a prayer service at 4 p.m.
Houghlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
