Penelope Diane Miniter, age 66, of Bellingham passed away from complications due to renal failure at her home June 3, 2016. Pennie was born May 6, 1950 in Bellingham to parents Felix Whitney and Daisy Ruth (De Merice) Plank. She graduated from Sehome High School in 1968, and was a Bellingham Beauty School graduate, with her state license in 1969. She had a life-long struggle with kidney disease. Due to her illness, she endured many hospital stays, was on kidney dialysis, had three kidney transplants, but kept her spirit up and was able to retire from J.C. Penney Company, Inc., as a Cosmetologist/Education Coordinator (technical procedures, marketing of products, training and development for in-salon personnel). She helped begin the Mt. Baker Kidney Support Group, and when able, she attended the Broadway Community Church. She is survived by siblings, Lorraine Duncan, Alix Evans, Constance Plank, Charles Plank, and numerous other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Robert Miniter, and siblings Olive Hatchell and Susan Setzer. Pennie would be pleased if donations were made in her memory to the Mt. Baker Kidney Center, 410 Birchwood Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98225, or as an animal lover, to the Whatcom Humane Society, 2172 Division Street, Bellingham, WA 98226, or the Preston County Humane Society, P.O. Box 395, Kingwood, West Virginia 26537. For family and friends, a memorial gathering will be held July 31, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at her home. Aunt Penny was the light of the family. She always had a smile on her face or a good story to tell. I will always remember her laugh and smile. She will truly be missed.
