Carmella “Gloria” (Ierna) Pizzo, 83, of Middletown, wife of the late Concetto “Jack” Pizzo, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday June 14, 2016 at Middlesex Health Care.

She was born in Hartford, daughter of the late Salvatore and Santina (Scalora) Ierna. Her greatest pleasure was being surrounded by her family and friends.  Carmella had a great capacity to love and was always looking for new friends wherever she went.  Her deep faith helped her throughout her life in good times and bad.  Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joy of her life.  Her handmade crocheted blankets will be a loving reminder to all her family.

Carmella is survived by her sons, Paul Pizzo and his wife Cheryl of Middlefield, David Pizzo and his partner Seth Stevens of New Haven; daughters, Elena Skoglund and her husband Raymond of Meriden, Linda Casillo and her husband James of Portland, Sandra Pizzo of Middletown; sister, Josephine Gallo of New Britain; 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Cynthia Cyrulik; brother, Anthony Ierna; sisters, Angela Monaco and Virginia Bilodeau; as well as her great-grandchildren, triplets, Braden, Cassidy and Catelyn Casillo.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday (June 18th) at 10 a.m. at Victory Tabernacle Church, 191 Rte. 66, Middlefield. Burial will be held at St. Sebastian Cemetery in Middlefield. Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O.
