Ann Christine Wade
Okemos
Ann Christine Wade passed away on June 13, 2016, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. She was a long-time resident of Okemos.
Ann was born on September 8, 1940, to Christian and Elizabeth (Hamilton) Vahs in Battle Creek, Michigan. Her father died before she was born. She lived in Bellevue until 1948, when her mother married John Shaffer and the family moved to Olivet. Ann graduated from Olivet High School in 1958 and attended Olivet College.
Ann married Peter C. "Pete" Wade, and after living for a short time in Oklahoma, they moved to Saint Claire Shores, Michigan. In 1967 they moved to Okemos. She worked for many years at Lansing Community College, and then at Michigan State University.
For years Ann enjoyed antiquing and was very talented at a number of crafts, such as knitting, cross stitch, and basket making. It was her love of quilting that seemed to bring her the most joy and she hand pieced and quilted many beautiful quilts over the years. Ann's real love was for her family and friends. In addition to her husband, Pete, she is survived by their two children, Peter (Tami) Wade, Jr., and Susan (James) Grant; three grandchildren, Matthew (Kathleen) Wade, Sarah Wade (Chad Khodl), and Stephanie Wade (Myles Bench); and a great granddaughter, Campbell Christine Wade. She is also survived by a sister, Jean (William) Blair. She was predeceased by another sister, Julia Shaffer, in 2013.
There will be no service, but a gathering for family and friends will take place at Coral Gables, 2838 E Grand River Ave., East Lansing, on Saturday, June 25, 2-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Remembering our escapades with Ann as the White Lights in our teens, later in college, and then watching our children grow in their formative years will always remain with those of us who knew her in our youth until now. She'll remain a part of us always as the best of friends. We will miss her. Although no words can really help to ease your loss, know that you all are in my thoughts.

So sorry to hear this new Pete. Ann was such a sweet and sincere person. It was so fun sharing pictures with her about the people most important people in our lives, our family. I will always remember Ann as a great quilter and how you would always go on quilting material shopping trips. She loved her squares! My thoughts and prayers will be with you as you go through this loss of your best friend. Hugs!
