Maureen (O'Shea) Church, 84, of Middletown wife of the late Robert Church, died peacefully on Monday June 20, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Ireland, daughter of Cornelius and Catherine (Mahoney) O'Shea and came to the U.S. when she was 17 years old. Maureen was called Mimi by her grandchildren and the countless other children she cared for over the years. She loved watching her children play baseball and was an avid Red Sox fan. Maureen is survived by her sons, Clifford Church and his wife Suzie of Old Wethersfield, Robert Church and his wife Kathy of Haddam, Kenneth Church and his wife Theresa of Rockford, IL, David Church of Middletown; daughters, Cathy Grillo and her husband Chick of Moodus, Kelly Rak and her husband Andrew of Middletown; sister Katherine Doonan of Dublin, Ireland; seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Katie, Matthew, Megan, Chelsea, Austin and Maxwell; as well as her nephew Paul Doonan. Maureen's family is grateful for the care and compassion given to her by the staff of Middlesex Hospice and are very thankful for her 24 hour caregiver Heather Rowe. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver Street, Middletown. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the State Veterans Cemetery.
