MARK WILLIAM JOHNSEN In peaceful repose, on June 21, 2016, Mark William Johnsen, 75, passed away when his heartalways full of good humor and a desire to help others -- stopped beating. Born in Sacra-mento on December 31, 1940, Mark lived most of his life in Chico. He is pre-deceased by his father, Volmer "Johnny" Johnsen, his birth mother, Ida (Daw) Johnsen, and his step-mother, Vivian Ruth "Foodie" (Swaim) Johnsen. Mark was very proud of his service in the US Navy, followed by 43 years of marriage to Susan Ann (Bain) Johnsen, who passed away in 2009. He was a loving father and is survived by his two daughters, Kristin Johnsen and Erin (Johnsen) Rouse, his brother Robert Johnsen, and his partner of many years, Kim Shields. In Reno, Mark worked as a deputy with the Washoe County Sheriff's Department. Later his career centered on marketing with West Chemical. He then pursued a Masters Degree while studying with New York Life Insurance, ultimately earning his LUTCF certification, enabling him to work as a financial planner. Along the way, he became an Honorary Deputy Sheriff in Butte County. Unwilling to retire, he spent the rest of his days serving the senior population selling Medicare supplements. Mark was a strong contributor to many groups: the Comanches, the Chico Elks Lodge, the Masons, and the Chico Elks RV club. His phenomenal story-telling ability made him a popular member of every group, including the Chico High class of '58. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 6, followed by a Celebra-tion of Life memorial at the Chico Elks Lodge from 11 AM to 1 PM. Donations may be sent to aid military families at FISHERHOUSE.ORG. Condolences to the family may be sent to www.brusiefh.com
