Peggy, I could not attend the memorial, but I was there in spirit.

I would like to take time to remember the life of Bernie Bamford, a man of great humor and greater generosity, a man at home on the golf course or the bowling alley, a man for whom the phrase "joie de vivre" seemed to have been created, loving husband and father. Thomas Wolfe once wrote, "Man is born to live, to suffer, and to die, and what befalls him is a tragic lot. There is no denying this in the final end. But we must deny it all along the way." No one denied it with greater panache.

I shall always remember and love Bernie's smile and humor. And I shall always remember how I felt so confident of the understanding of both of you when I faced a crisis in my own life. I will always love Bernie and Peggy.

Dear Peg & Family -- So sorry to hear of Bernie's passing. Lots of good memories with you, our neighbors "across the pond" in Callawassie Island. Bernie was a good man, always smiling. My condolences.

We will miss our buddy Bern! Our lives are shallower without him, but we still have Peg and our many memories of a great guy.

Peg,
We are so sorry to hear of your loss. You know we loved Bernie and his sense of humor. It did not matter that he could not remember my name and the librarian rhyme was the ticket to success. We now live in Myrtle Beach and have a large guest room. You are always welcome to come on down for a break in your winter PA weather.
