My dad and Gary were friends for decades. They shared a love for racing that was with them both until the day they died. When my dad passed, Gary had my dad's name engraved on a brick at the Eastern Museum of Auto Racing, and my family is forever grateful for Gary's generosity.
I'm sorry we missed the viewing and the funeral. We just found out today.

Sad to hear of the loss of my friend Gary. Ever since he drove the #5 for my dad he always took time to talk and just ask how things were going. Listening to his stories gave me an insight to the amazing colorful life that he lived on and off the track. RIP Gary

I first met Gary when I went to work in Bryansville at the Gas Pipeline Station. Two racers, Gary and Milford Wales worked there and racer Neil Haight worked the next station south. I would so much enjoy their racing conversations. Then when I would drive Gary somewhere, he always cautioned me "there's a bad curve up ahead" or don't forget the stop sign" - all from a guy who drove over a hundred miles per hour around an oval track all weekend long. He was a great guy with a quick easy grin and chuckle - a wonderful friend who I will never forget. May he rest in peace.

I'm so saddened to hear of Gary's passing. He and my dad, Larry Fales had many great times together. I'll never forget the time Gary, in his bigger than life toughness, was running circles around his truck to escape our geese! After that I didn't feel so bad about being afraid of them. You will be missed by many Gary, be free of pain.

Gary was my favorite driver growing up. My dad would root for my great uncle Harold Wike my mom was a Dwight Lieb fan. I loved going to Silver Springs eating the french fries and watching #71 the Kohler car run. I would be horse by the end of the night screaming for him to go faster. The absolute best times ever. Thanks for the great memories RIP Gary and take it easy on them up there in racing heaven.
