Mereline Girouard Moresi
BROUSSARD - A Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 14, 2016 for Mereline Girouard Moresi, who passed away surrounded by family members on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the age of 79 years.
Entombment will be in Sacred Heart of Jesus Mausoleum in Broussard.
Reverend Taj Glodd, Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ville Platte will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Heather Moresi Pollitt and Michael Heath Moresi. Giftbearers will be Brian Jason Moresi and Benjamin Reed Moresi. Karen Broussard, organist will sing for the services, "Notre Pere", Isaiah 49"," Hail Mary, Gentle Woman" and "I Can Only Imagine".
She is survived by her loving husband and constant companion of 60 years, Gerald Anthony Moresi of Broussard; their four sons, Kevin Anthony Moresi of Church Point and wife Gay, Brian Jason Moresi and his late wife Mary of Broussard, Lance Edward Moresi and wife, Lori of Pineville, and Michael Heath Moresi of Lafayette; nine grandchildren, Courtney Rose Moresi, Travis Wade Moresi, Heather Moresi Pollitt, Taylor James Moresi, Ana Elizabeth Moresi, Benjamin Reed Moresi, Samuel Chas Moresi, Brian Dylan Moresi, Brant Jason Moresi; and seven great grandchildren. Mereline is also survived by her sister, Frances G. Patton and husband Steve.She was preceded in death by her parents, Maxie Paul Girouard and the former Veda Guilbeau Girouard; and one daughter in law, Mary Jane Piazza Moresi.
Mrs. Moresi, a native and lifelong resident of Broussard, was the daughter of the late Maxie P. Girouard and the former Veda Guilbeau Girouard of Cade.
Mereline was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and served as a CCD teacher, a member of the Ladies Altar Society, and served as a lector. Mrs. Moresi was a graduate of St. Cecilia High School in Broussard. She earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Education Degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now known as University of Louisiana - Lafayette. She taught for fourteen years in Lafayette Parish Schools and served for sixteen years as Elementary School Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction. As supervisor, Mereline supported the concept of raising the school entrance age requirements and expanding the Lafayette Parish Kindergarten Program from a half-day to a full-day program.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Gerald and their family of four boys. As a pilgrim, she traveled to the Holy Land, and many Holy Sites in Europe. Later in life, Mereline and her husband's travels included all fifty states. Her hobby of flower gardening led to certification as a Lafayette Parish Master Gardener. She also enjoyed painting, jewelry making, bird watching, camping, pottery and other crafts.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Anthony Moresi, Brian Jason Moresi, Lance Edward Moresi, Michael Heath Moresi, Samuel Chas Moresi, and Brian Dylan Moresi.
Honorary Pallbearers are Benjamin Reed Moresi, Steve Patton, and David Armentor.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location on Thursday from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM and on Friday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
A Rosary will be prayed Thursday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.
