WAKARUSA - Jerry L. Martin, 76, Wakarusa, died 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa. He was born March 13, 1940, in Shiawassee County, Michigan, to H. Ward and Bernice (Benton) Martin. He married Helen (Parcell) Martin on June 23, 1962.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Helen Martin, Wakarusa, and a brother, C. Joseph (Shirley) Martin, Goshen. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Martin, and half brother, H. Ward Martin Jr.
He served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany until he was discharged in 1962. He worked as a quality control engineer at AM General. He was also a contract administrator at Honeywell where he retired in 2005. Jerry was a 1958 graduate of Wakarusa High School. He received his Master's in Business from Indiana University South Bend. He was a member of American Legion, Wakarusa, and was on the Wakarusa Tree Board. He served as a coordinator for Elkhart County CoCoRaHs for over 10 years. He was a lifetime member of ASQC (American Society of Quality Control). Jerry was also a Certified Master Gardner and a member of the Michiana Masters Gardener's Association.
Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2016, at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, 117 W. Waterford St., Wakarusa. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2016, at Olive (West) Cemetery. Pastor David Harper will officiate. Memorial contributions may be directed to Michiana Masters Gardner's Association.
