Billy Thompson Obituary
He was born in Allentown, Florida and grew up in a Navy family. He was a graduate of Troy State where he lettered in track and made lifelong friends. Known as "Dr. T" to many who came to know him as a teacher, coach, administrator, and the "Voice of the Vikings" over his 44-year career in the Okaloosa County School System.
Following his retirement in 2002, he became an avid golfer until his sight failed him. Dr. T was a long-standing member of the Elks Lodge and Emerald Coast Troy Alumni Association. He attended his last home game in November of 2016, despite the physical challenges he had. He is survived by his wife, Janet; children Jim Wilson of Fort Walton Beach, Jennifer (Brad Giessen) Norris of Destin, Florida and Jessica (Ronnie) McDill of Bay Minette, Alabama; grandchildren Cassy Crowson and Cade McDill; great-grandson Dean Creighton-Mace; brothers-in-law Billy Stichler and Ray (Cindy) Stichler of Fort Walton Beach; and many extended family.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Chapel of the Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 161 Racetrack Road, NW, Fort Walton Beach, Florida. 32547
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Alabama Kidney Foundation in honor of the life-giving transplant Dr. Thompson received in 2004, contact information can be found at www.alkidney.org., or to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast, 923 Denton Blvd, N.W.
