June 18, 1935 - Jan. 15, 2017 Sara Richardson Smoke, age 81, of Hoover, affectionately known as "Nana", went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 15, 2017. She was born June 18, 1935 in Birmingham, AL. Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Smoke "Bobby"; parents, Cecil and Annabel Richardson; sister, Joann Richardson; and brother, Robert Richardson. She is survived by her two children, Sandy (Terry) Stephens, Sammy (Dawn) Smoke; grandchildren, Katie (Taylor) Glaze, Bo (Kaley) Stephens, Luke Smoke, Abbie Smoke, Isabelle Smoke and Amelia Smoke; and two great-grandchildren, Patton Glaze and Norah Glaze, all of Birmingham, Alabama. Sara graduated from Shades Valley High School and attended Auburn University. She was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church for almost 50 years where she had been a faithful member of the Joy Sunday school class. She loved spending time with her family and friends and Auburn. She enjoyed time at the lake, Blue Birds, growing tomatoes, caring for her yard and flowers, working puzzles, baking Christmas cookies, and was an exemplary servant-hearted daughter, wife, mother, and friend her entire life. She will be honored in a memorial service at the Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 17th at 11:30 am with burial to follow. Friends will be received from 10:00 - 11:30am and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Green Valley Baptist Church and the American Cancer Society.

Sandy and Sam, words can't express my sorrow at the loss of such a special lady. I loved both of your parents who shaped mine and my siblings life in such a positive way. I will be praying for each of you but remember the Smokes, Panters and Turners are once again together and having fun! Love to all Tracie
