Charles Hilliard Obituary

Charles J. Hilliard, 79, formerly of Rimersburg, died at 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he had been a resident for the past several years.

Born January 4, 1938, in Fairmount City, New Bethlehem, he was the son of Norman Hilliard and Alice (Radaker) Hilliard.

He married Betty Lou Best on July 22, 1967. She preceded him in death on August 28, 1998.

For many years he worked at the former Crawford Furniture Company in New Bethlehem and retired in 2001.

Before his illness, Mr. Hilliard enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Survivors include two daughters, Tammy Moore and her husband, Barry, and Rhonda Barger and her husband, Dale, both of Rimersburg; a sister, Arvilla Buck of Brookville; and four grandchildren, Ryan Moore, and Austin, Corey and Makenzie Barger.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Hilliard and an infant brother; and a sister, Ester Neiswonger.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 10, at the Varner Funeral Home in Rimersburg.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Deeter, pastor of the Wildcat Weselyan Methodist Church near Rimersburg, officiating.

Interment will follow in Rimersburg Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Rimersburg Hose Company.
