February 24, 1924-February 11, 2017
Ed Hodson quietly slipped out to reunite with his beloved wife Saturday in Arlington.
Entombment: 2:00pm, Friday, Moore Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Ed Hodson was born to a large farm family outside Joplin, Missouri. At 17, his mom allowed him to enlist in the Navy, and through World War II, Ed repaired fighter-plane engines in the Pacific. After, he married his great love, Marie Mainey of Kansas; they were inseparable until her death nearly sixty years later.
Ed and Marie enjoyed the Kansas City nightlife and Ed got his start at General Motors; he was later hand-picked to transfer to Texas and, in 1954, Ed drove the very first car off the Arlington assembly line. Ed was a friendly and effective supervisor throughout the plant; he also encouraged family and friends to work for GM, bringing many Hodsons to the area. He retired in 1980 as Superintendent of the Trim Department.
Since the late 70s, the Hodsons shared their time and affection as “adopted” parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents to the Lawson family of greater Fort Worth, who call them “Ed and E”. Their home provided a sanctuary where kids could be kids, with plenty of lush greenery that planted by Ed himself.
Ed is preceded in death by his wife and 11 sisters and brothers.
Survivors: daughter, Betty Lawson; grandsons Jeffrey and Kevin Lawson; great-grandkids, Chelsea Wyatt and Skyler and Ace Lawson; sisters Velda Murphy of Plano and Iris Dowell of California; numerous nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Ed’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
