Feb. 26, 1925 - Feb. 13, 2017 Edsel Hershel Neeley, 91 of Homewood, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017. Edsel was born and raised in Chilton County, AL. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After marrying Mildred Cox in 1949, they moved to Birmingham where they raised two daughters and a grandson. Mr. Neeley was a building contractor. He and Mildred are long-time members of Mt. Calvary Baptist church in Tarrant, AL. Edsel loved building, growing tomatoes, working in his yard and helping others. He also enjoyed Alabama Football. He was loved and respected by all who knew him, and will be greatly missed. Mr. Neeley is preceded in death by his parents, F.E. and Fronie Neeley; and brothers, Earl and Hubbard Neeley. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mildred C. Neeley; daughters, Diane Graham (Tony) and Gail McGowan (John); grandchildren, Chris Layne and Kori Hallmark (C.J.); and his favorite niece, Jackie Neeley. The celebration of Edsel's life will be at 1pm on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 11am. His burial will be at Southern Heritage.

I am blessed to have been friends with such a wonderful man. But not just a wonderful man but a man who trusted Jesus with his life. It was my honor to have baptized both Ed and Mildred at the same time. My prayers go out to his beautiful family as they celebrate his amazing life.
