Jean Margaret Bailey "Jeanne" Akers CRESCENT CITY, CA Jean Margaret Bailey Akers, born July 16, 1931, passed away peacefully on Feb. 16, 2017, of natural causes. Wife of deceased husband, Hetzel W. Akers Sr., Jean is survived by two sons, Keith D. Akers (wife, Mary Lou) of Warren, ME, and Hetzel W. Akers Jr. (wife, Kathy) of Crescent City, CA; and a daughter, Diane Valles (husband, Gary) of San Antonio, TX. In addition, she had five cherished grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Daughter of deceased parents, George and Pearl Bailey, of Lawrenceville, NJ, Jean is also survived by two sisters, Betty Jane Bailey Chmura of Tinton Falls, NJ, and Joyce Bailey Mooney (husband, Albert) of Aurora, IL. She is also survived by one living aunt, Ruth Ettenger of Lawrenceville, NJ. Jeanne, as she was known by all her family and friends, was a good mother, kind to strangers and loyal to friends. She was born in Lawrenceville, NJ, graduated from Trenton Central High School, attended Rider College, worked for New York Life Insurance Company and married Hetzel in 1950. They moved to LaCanada, CA in 1966, where she worked as an administrative assistant to her late husband. Jeannie also opened her own antique store and interior decorating business in Montrose, CA. After the death of her husband, Jeanne bought a home in Crescent City in 1998, where she remained very busy as a volunteer throughout the community. She volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, Crescent City Historical Society, the Catholic school as a reading tutor, Del Norte Fair Grounds and Flower Pavilion, Sutter Coast Hospital Same-Day Surgery Unit and Sutter Coast Clinic. She participated in many other charitable events in the community. She often visited the sick and needy at Addee Meedom Assisted Living Facility as well as other similar facilities around the Crescent City area. Jeanne possessed a passion for flowers and often created floral decorations for rooms, especially tables for church and community events, and this passion was evident by the endless details and love she provided with each arrangement. Our mother was deeply religious and had a true belief in the Trinity and the power of angels. She was a lifelong member of the Slackwood Presbyterian Church in Lawrenceville, NJ. Words will be spoken in her memory at the church on Sunday, March 5, 2017. Service starts at 10:30 a.m. To all of you who knew and accepted our mother with kindness, the extended Akers family sincerely thanks you. Jeanne truly loved flowers, and the family is requesting any floral or monetary contributions in her memory be sent to Slackwood Presbyterian Church, 2020 Brunswick Ave., Lawrenceville, NJ 08648-4606. Arrangements are under the direction of Wier's Mortuary Chapel. Dear Keith Hetzel and Diane
My deepest sympathy A long time ago but always in my heart I remember your Mom buying a girly raincoat for 5 year old Marla because I sent her to school in a hand-me down yellow slicker and eating 6 slices of white bread with butter and sugar. So sorry I couldn't go to the church today Blessings Joan Gering
