ASHVILLE- Rita M. Lescynski, 94, of Victoria Road, Ashville, died Saturday (February 25, 2017) at her daughter’s home in Ashville.
She was born April 19, 1922 in Magnolia, NY, daughter of the late George and Ethel Bohall Kranking.
Rita was a housewife who in earlier years also worked at the Chautauqua Diner and cooking for the fish fry’s at the Mayville VFW.
She was a member of the Mayville VFW Auxiliary, the North Harmony and Mayville Senior Citizens, the Magnolia Cemetery Board, the Good Will Card Club, and the Alumni Association for Chautauqua Central School. She enjoyed baking, crossword puzzles, playing cards, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, and family get-togethers. She was especially proud of being a member a Championship basketball team at Chautauqua Central School in her youth.
She is survived by her five children: William (Donna) Lescynski of Mayville, Anita (Earl) Ferry of Ashville, Tom (Julie) Lescynski of Mayville, Jack (Maryann) Lescynski of Mayville, and Lisa (Randy) Nickerson of Mayville; 14 grandchildren: Kim Lescynski, Pam Applebee, Stacy Davenport, Bill Lescynski Jr., Leanna (John) Conley, Amanda (Andy) Anderson, Christine (Jody) Peterson, Andrew (Wende) Lescynski, Jesse Lescynski, Mollie (Mike) Messenger, Melanie (Mike) Cannon, Emily (Jason) Small, Shane (Samantha) Nickerson, and Derrick (Rachelle) Nickerson; 22 great grandchildren; and one sister, Suzanne (William) Sumner of Florida.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Lescynski, whom she married July 6, 1942, in Mayville, a sister; Edna Kranking, and five brothers: Paul, George, Virgil, Lawrence, and Robert Kranking.
A private funeral service will be held at the Freay Funeral Home with interment to follow at the Magnolia Cemetery.
A celebration of life for Rita will be held on Tuesday, February 28th at the Mayville VFW from 1-4pm. All are welcome.
