Albert M.E. Richards, age 68, of York Haven, died at 10:27 a.m. Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Sharon A. (Shaffner) Richards.
Born April 4, 1948 in York County, he was a son of the late William A. and Dorothy J. {Fogle} Richards. He was retired from the MA and PA Railroad, where he worked for 30 years, and had also worked as an auto body technician. An avid Late Model Car racing enthusiast, and driver of car number Four, he was the 1994 Champion of Hagerstown Speedway, and inducted into the Hagerstown Speedway Hall of Fame in 2006. A U.S. Army Veteran of the VietNam war, he was a member of West York Veterans of Foreign Wars as well as the Goldsboro Fireman's Club. He enjoyed NASCAR racing as well as traveling and camping with family and friends.
In addition to his wife of 31 years, Mr. Richards is survived by two sons, Albert M.E. Richards II, and his wife Megan, of York Haven, Eric T. Richards, of York Haven; a daughter, Angela D. Richards, and her companion, Mike Knaub, of York; six grandchildren, whom he lived for, Dennis Gohn, Jr., Kayla Kantor, Christofer Richards, Aaliyah Richards, Alayna Richards and Albert Richards, III; two great-grandchildren, Camden Sage and Austin McClearn; three brothers, Perry Richards and Edward Richards both of Manchester, and Lewis Richards of Wrightsville; a sister, Dorothy Stoner of York; and his furry companions, Motley and Tikka. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William Richards and a sister, Norma Richards.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, March 6, 2017 at William E. Little Funeral Homes, Inc., 60 S. Main St., Manchester, with Pastor Judy Bupp, officiating. Viewing will be 1 to 2 p.m.
