William ANDERSON Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from Mar. 2 to Mar. 3, 2017.

ANDERSON, William "Bill" Andrew
February 8, 1926 – Kew, Alberta
February 28, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta
William Andrew Anderson, January 8, 1926 to February 28, 2017, passed away at the age of 91 years at the Foothills Medical Centre. Bill was born on the family farm in Kew, Alberta (the youngest of five children) and was raised in Millarville, Alberta. Bill had 60+ years in the oil and gas industry with a focus on safety. He consulted for PITS (now Enform) well into his early 80s, auditing H2S Alive and WHMIS instructors. Bill's desire to create a safe living environment was learned at a very young age – he started in the oil and gas industry when he was 14 years old first as a vehicle attendant and later as a safety watch on an H2S well in the Turner Valley area. He later became a certified mechanic and was forever tinkering with this or that to get things working again. He proudly served on the condo board of Calvanna Village in Arbour Lake and was especially pleased when someone asked him to fix something – a leaky tap, a squeaky door – no job was too large or too small for Bill. In his later years when he was less mobile, Bill's greatest love was country drives in the familiar areas of Turner Valley and Millarville as well as surrounding Calgary countryside. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Jean, and all four of his children: Karen (Jim) Thomson, Laura Rogers, William (Eileen) Anderson, Jr., and Catherine (Glenn) Forsyth, 13 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren (and still counting!). He was predeceased by his father John, mother Clara, two sisters Olive and Margaret, two brothers John and Andy, and his son-in-law Mike Rogers. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Special thanks to Doctors Orr, Mayhew, Goeghegan and the staff in Unit 72 at the Foothills Medical Centre who were so kind to Bill during his last few weeks. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 200, 119 – 14th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 Telephone: (403) 264-5549, www.heartandstroke.ca. or to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Canada, #112, 2025 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC, V6J 1Z6 Tel: (1-888) 822-9474, www.makeawish.ca. In living memory of Bill Anderson, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Mr Anderson was a very kind gentleman and we enjoyed getting to share his company when he visited with his Grandson Jesse and family. His love of helping others and carpentry has definitely been passed on to Jesse. Our sincere sympathy. The Kemp Family
