Not sure what to say?

A valued neighbor and friend! I am late learning of Charles' passing - a returned 'undeliverable' Christmas card a few weeks ago was my first clue. I am so sad. Charles and Gretta moved into their home the same summer I did and we bonded over pets and gardening. Both of them contributed an unimaginable amount to the communities and world around them. May they rest in peace and love together again. My deepest sympathy to Janie and her brothers, the 2 grandsons I know, and the other family members.

I want to share a brief story about Charles. I was on the property council at NDPC with Charles when the connecting building was being planned. It turned out that Scott Blvd. dumped its water runoff between our buildings which was a possible issue with the new structure. We met on the property to try and figure out what to do and Charles crawled down two manholes with a flashlight to figure it out. I believe he was 76 at the time. After he had a solid understanding of what had to be done he sent a letter to the Georgia Dept. of transportation and copied Tom Murphy about monies that were supposed to be given to NDPC for allowing the water run off to come through the property.
He then got a meeting wih Tom Murphy, who at the time was the most powerful politician in Georgia, and secured thousands of dollars in money owed the property. Wow. Bravery, gumption and dedication to the church. Good guy.

Charles Dewald has been so supportive of my Cafe through the years. He was always very proud to remind me that his family came from the Alsace region of France. He will be missed at the Cafe...and will remain in my heart for ever ! Condoleances to his family and his dear wife Martha.

Charles was such a wonderful man. He and my mother were married five and a half years, but Charles was very quickly an important part of our family. We all loved him for his easy smile, strong faith, warm hugs, intellect and generosity. He was a very devoted husband to his late wife and to my mother. My favorite memory of Charles is his 88th birthday. He was feeling good, and as my mother siblings and I sang happy birthday to him, he chimed in, singing, "Happy birthday to meee!" I loved Charles and will miss him very much!
