Julie Therrien Obituary

Julie Thome Therrien

Indialantic, FL

May 23, 1940 - April 8, 2017

Julie Thome Therrien, 76, of Indialantic, went to be with the Lord peacefully on the morning of April 8, 2017 surrounded by her family at The William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, FL.

Left to cherish Julie's life are her children, Robert John McGarigle of Atlanta; Linda Marie Wheeler of Indialantic; and Mark Thome Therrien of Los Angeles; her children-in-law, Winston Wheeler; Lori McGarigle; and Katie Therrien; her treasured grandchildren Connor McGarigle, 14; Trey Wheeler, 13; and Kaitlyn McGarigle 11; and her adorable dog, Sookie.

Julie was born on May 23, 1940 on her family's farm in Foreston, MN. She was the youngest of seven children to her late parents John and Connie (Roehl) Thome.  Her father, served in the Army during World War I as a translator, and her mother was a homemaker.

Julie had four brothers and two sisters. Her brothers, Leo (1923 - 2013) and Larry as well as her brother-in-law, Hobart "Bud" Molin, served in World War II.  Additionally, Larry and Bud also served in the Korean War, while her brothers George and Peter served in either the National Guard or the Navy respectively. She was also a dearly loved sister to Mary-Ann (Thome) Molin, and Irene (Thome) Rafferty (1930 - 2006).

As a child, Julie lived and worked on her family's dairy farm. She graduated in 1958 from Cathedral High School in St Cloud, MN where she was a member of the drum and bugle core and participated on the girl's basketball and bowling teams. She also enjoyed water skiing and woodcarving. After high school, Julie graduated from the St Cloud School of Beauty Culture and began working immediately as a hairdresser, a career she cherished for nearly 60 years.

She spent a brief time living in Massachusetts before settling in the Melbourne, FL area.  By the late seventies, she opened up her first hair salon on 5th Ave in Indialantic. There, she built a faithful clientele and created lifelong friendships and memories. Until her final months, Julie continued the work she loved alongside her beloved colleagues at Dan's Hair Studio on Eau Gallie Blvd.

Julie was an active member of the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Community and loved welcoming fellow parishioners with a warm smile to 7:15 am mass as a volunteer greeter.  In addition, she served in the adoration chapel and the baptism ministry, as well as being a member of the Christ Renews His Parish retreat group, and the Women of Faith bible study.

She lived to serve everyone around her, which was evident in the countless hours she spent cutting hair, entertaining, cooking and baking, or supporting her children and grandchildren. Many holidays and Sunday dinners for friends and family were spent at Gram's house bringing joy to those who attended. An avid sports fan, Julie also loved watching her beloved Gators, Cubbies, and cheering on her grandchildren as they participated in hockey, baseball, basketball, and figure skating.

Julie lived life with great dignity guided by her faith in the Lord. Her spirit and compassion for others will live on in all that experienced her generosity and kindness. We will always love and miss our beloved "Gram."

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to The William Childs Hospice House at 381 Medplex Pkwy, Palm Bay, FL 32907.

Julie was always energetic and ready to work her magic with hair. I first met her in Indialantic when she was pregnant with Mark. I lost track of her for a while and then reconnected at Dan's. She never seem to change. I will miss her.

I didn't know Julie very well but she always had a big smile and welcoming look. She sat in front of me last June at our 24 Hour Divine Mercy night and she sang out to the Lord and solemnly said her rosary. I prayed many Chaplets of Divine Mercy for her while she was waiting for God to take her and I know her family should know how much love she had in her heart for them and for her friends and for her precious God. He has her now in His lovely hands.
