Robert G. Klingensmith, of Oakmont, passed peacefully Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Born Oct. 6, 1925, to the late Charles and Ida Klingensmith, he was raised in Harmar Township on the Harmar Golf Club. He was the beloved brother of Louetta Klingensmith and Dorothy Wygant; and is also survived by four nephews and six nieces. He was preceded in death by brothers, C. Thomas, Kenneth, Stanley and Chester; and a niece, Karen. Robert served in the Army Air Force during World War II as a plane mechanic from May 22, 1944, and was honorably discharged Nov. 9, 1945. When he was out of the service, he continued to work on the golf course as well as one near Palmetto, Fla. After 1955, the family sold the Harmar Golf Course and Robert, his oldest brother, and dad designed and built the Briarwood Golf Club in West York. He was superintendent of the course and at a few others before going to the Foxburg Golf Club and eventually retiring from the Kane Golf Club.
There will be no services and in the future his ashes will be scattered in the air over Florida. Arrangements are entrusted to ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., Oakmont.

I found an old photograph and saw his smile. His Adam's apple, Top Gun haircut, and golden tan made quite an impression, even later on. Uncle Bob crafted his life from hard work and harder play. His heart always seemed to lead him to land and sky, whether skiing, flying, racing, or just driving cross country. I wish I had known how they informed his long years. Was it the grandeur, the solitude, the mystery? Did he find an important truth on a far-away slope? My dad, Tom, and I looked forward to his visits and hearing his stories. I hope his lively sense of humor stayed with him until the end. You're home now, Uncle Bob. ~ Love, your niece Sandra
