Virginia Schroder
January 18, 1927 - April 28, 2017
Virginia Schroder was born in Helmsburg, Indiana on January 18, 1927. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gerald Schroder. She passed away at home on Friday, April 28, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Walter Rains; her brother, Walter Rains, Jr.; her sisters, Betty Forney and Barbara Brosey; and a very special aunt, Mary Curts.
Virginia spent her early life, high school and initial employment in Indianapolis. Upon graduation from Arsenal Technical High in 1945, she qualified for the honor of membership in the Tech Legion.
Prior to Virginia's high school graduation she became employed at Schwitzer-Cummins Company. She maintained that position until August of 1955 when she married Gerald Schroder and established residence with him in Hawthorne, Nevada. She became employed as Office Manager of the local Ford dealership.
Gerald and Virginia moved from Hawthorne to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1962 where they resided for ten years. Gerald was a teacher and administrator in the Clark County School District and Virginia was employed by a masonry construction firm.
In 1973, Virginia and Gerald purchased a KOA Campground in Caldwell, Idaho. They owned and operated that business for sixteen years. Besides making a reasonable livelihood, they established a host of long-lasting friendships.
Upon sale of the campground, they established a home on 75 acres of agriculture land located on the Boise River near Parma, Idaho. They did some livestock and agriculture activity for several ensuing years. During the period they raised Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. These animals were especially dear to Virginia.
In 2003 they purchased a residence on the north boundary of Purple Sage Golf Course. They greatly enjoyed their home and particularly appreciated the atmosphere and scenery provided by the golf course activity.
