I met Al while we were students at Champaign Urbana. I recall he had an engaging personality and always seemed to have a smile on his face. One of my fondest
memories involved his working as a photographer for the student paper, The Daily Illini. I was studying on the lawn
of the Noble House during finals, when Al
approached and proposed to take a photo of
me stretched out, with my head resting on a
stack of books. The next day, there was a picture of me on the front page of the paper with a caption: "Bob Hornstein studying for his finals by osmosis." I still have a copy of that paper, which I have shared with my family.
My sympathy goes out to his entire family. He certainly has led a remarkable
life. I'm certain he has brought many smiles to countles others as he did
for me.

I met Al in the Economist Class at OLLI and always enjoyed
his wry comments delivered with a twinkle in his eye. A charming,
bright guy. A great loss to all.

Sidney and I CANNOT be with you tomorrow. We remember you best in our first apartment with Audrey. You took wonderful care of her when she was very ill. Then we met again, with Gail, at OLLI. I contacted you when I saw your photo. We are so sorry at your passing. Charlotte & Sidney Projansky
