Andrew "Andy" Marion Thompson, 76, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 31, 2017 after a brief illness.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church, 15000 S. Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC with the Rev. Bob Jack officiating. Interment will be in the Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Thompson was born September 25, 1940 in Charlotte, NC to the late Buck (Andrew) and Lavine Thompson, he resided on his farm in the lower Steele Creek community.
He graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in 1958, and worked at
Coca-Cola Consolidated, where he was a sign painter for 30 years. During his employment at Coke he enjoyed painting murals and went on to restoring them in his freelance career as the owner of Andy Thompson Sign Painting. He enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1961 and served five years.
Andy was a family man who enjoyed riding tractors and taking care of his few cows. He was a lifetime member of the Steele Creek Volunteer Fire Department and was a part of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a lifelong member and elder at Pleasant Hill Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Eddie.
Survivors are his wife of 56 years and love of his life Hilda Motsinger Thompson; sons Drew (Rachael) and Darrell (Debbie); grandchildren Amber, Katie, Hannah, Cameron, and Collin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 15000, S. Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28278 or The American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
