Thelen, Ruth "Peg" E. WILTON Ruth "Peg" E. Thelen, formerly of Schuyler Drive, Saratoga Springs, passed away Monday, June 12, 2017, at Saratoga Hospital. She was 99. Born on January 18, 1918, in Schenectady, she was the daughter of the late Harold Clark and Agnes Greene Bailey and was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. A former member of Court McLaughlin 422 Catholic Daughters of the Americas, she had volunteered for many years for the Saratoga Hospital Guild. In her younger years, Peg enjoyed creating works of art and had tried her hand at needlepoint, knitting, crewel and even watercolors. She continued to be an avid reader, drawn especially to mysteries, and bingo player throughout her life. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Richard T. Thelen, who died March 3, 1993; and two grandchildren, Richard Dyer and Heather Dyer Daniels. Spending time with family was important to Peg. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Robert) Dyer of Clifton Park, Carolyn (Joseph) Bove of Rutland, Vt., her son John "Jack" (Jerene) Thelen of Gansevoort; seven grandchildren, Michael Spencer, Daniel (Lynn) Spencer, Sue (Roger) Dandurand, Kathy Spencer, Christine (Marco) Tonizzo, Amy (John) DiPreta and Nicole (David) Eddy; and 15 great-grandchildren. With her acute memory, Peg remembered, and spoke highly of, the people she came to know over her lifetime. Her stories of life during the Great Depression and World War II were the focus of many a great-grandchild's school project. She was very fond of the staff at Home of the Good Shepherd in Wilton where she most recently lived. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue, Saratoga Springs. Memorials may be made in her name to the charity of the giver's choice. Online remembrances may be made at www.burkefuneralhome.com

Warmest thoughts and deepest sympathy to Pegs family in her passing. We have many fond memories with her friendship with my mother Lena. They had a great time together through the years. I have some of Pegs needlepoint hanging on my walls that she had given mom as gifts. She was a wonderful kind person. Fondly, Jeri Armstrong Towner and Mike Towner.
