Dorothy Mummert Obituary

Dorothy A. Mummert
September 12, 1935 - July 22, 2017
York
Dorothy A. Mummert, 81, went home to rest on July 22, 2017 at her residence with her husband by her side. The couple was united in marriage on December 27, 1987, sharing almost 30 years of adventures together. She was the loving wife of David E. Mummert of York.
Dorothy was born in York, on September 12, 1935, daughter of the late Wilford G. and Ada L. (Heilman) Henry.
She worked much of her life as a Dental Hygienist. She was educated at William Penn Senior High School and later Temple University. She was first employed at the Maryland School of the Blind and later worked at various dental offices around the York area.
She loved tutoring reading at the Goode Elementary School. She was one of the early members of the Master Gardner program for many years. Dorothy loved the outdoors, traveling and her garden and enjoyed many gardens around the world. She saw much of the U.S. and Canada, but really loved flying with her husband on military "hops" around the world, with most trips going to Europe. Her most recent trip in May was a nice river cruise from Prague to Budapest. She loved being a snowbird in Florida.
Dorothy was a member of Unity Church of Harrisburg and Unity Church of Fort Myers, FL. She enjoyed studying a course in Miracles with friends at her house.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Beth Zook of Lebanon; a son, Steven Magor of York; three grandchildren, Maria Magor, Stephanie Magor and Johnathan Zook; a step-son, Jeff Mummert of Mechanicsburg; a step-daughter, Tricia Mummert of Lake City, FL; two step-grandchildren, Jake Mummert and Maren Mummert; a brother, Rodger Henry and his wife, Sylvia of York; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday July 28, 2017 at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St. York. A visitation will be held from 10:30-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. A private burial for the family will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Olivia's House, 830 South George Street, York, PA 17403.

I was so shocked to hear the news of Dorothy passing away. She had recently become a member of the Travel Group of Palmetto Palms in Ft. Myers, FL. She was a well traveled lady and had a lot to share with us. She loved flowers and gardens and had a trip planned in 2018 that she was anticipating to be a group leader to Marie Selby Gardens in Sarasota. I will miss her sweet and calm gentle way of working with us. Our sincere sympathy to her husband Dave and family. Tom and Jan Nowakowski

The game of Mahjongg brought us together at Palmetto Palms in Florida. Good player. Great person. An honor to have known her.

A longtime friend and former neighbor from Forest Road. I enjoyed many day trips and get togethers with her over the years when I would come back to visit. She was a free spirit with a playful sense of humor, always ready for something new. I know she and Marge are up in heaven cultivating a beautiful garden.

As friends who met through the Unity church of Fort Myers, Florida, we were drawn to Dorothy-Ann with her gentle manner and centred approach. We enjoyed our short time of friendship and send her our blessings, love and light for her journey. She will be missed.

Dorothy was a good friend I met many years ago while working in a dental office. We enjoyed talking and laughing together and we shared Sept. 12th birthdays. My husband Charlie and I express our deepest sympathy to her husband Dave and all of her family. I am so thankful We had some time with Dottie and Dave recently. I know Dorothy is in heaven now enjoying peace and beautiful flowers.

So sorry to hear about Dot's passing. I'll always remember her from school and scouts. She was the first to order a "Vanilla Sundae" that shocked us all. She had a great sense of humor and wonderful outlook on life. Condolences to Dave and family.
