Salinas
Bonnie Marie Ish, 91, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, September 3, 2017, at Carmelo Park in Monterey. Bonnie was born November 29, 1925 in San Antonio, Texas. She was the only child of Lt. Col. Claud Hollis and his wife Virgie. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Stewart Ish, and her two beloved sons, Andy and Joel.
Bonnie was a longtime Salinas businesswoman who began her career as a bookkeeper with Kane and Zech in the 1960's. She later joined her sons as a partner in Stewart's Housewares and Gifts. She retired in 1997 after 25 years with Stewart's. Bonnie was a world traveler beginning with her childhood in the Philippines. Many of her lifelong friendships came from these pastimes. Her associations with organizations such as Entre Nous, the Salinas Women's Club, Order of the Eastern Star - Reveille Chapter, the Steinbeck Center, Active Seniors, and Northminster Presbyterian Church were a special part of her life. Mrs. Ish was always one of my favorite people. When I was younger I would shop at Stewart's for gifts. She always greeted me so warmly and was so helpful. She's one of those people who you never forget. She was an asset to our community and touched many of us! She will be deeply missed!
