Joseph W. Kaczmarek, 87, of Rotterdam, passed away peacefully Friday, September 8, 2017 with his family by his side. Born on January 1, 1930 in Glenville, he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Suski) Kaczmarek. Joe attended Scotia- Glenville Schools. After graduating, he proudly served our country in the United States Army as a Tank Gunner in the 11th Airborne, 76 Tank Battalion Company C; and with his dedication, received the Good Conduct Medal. Joe went on to work as a Carpenter for 44 years until his retirement in 2001. Joe was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR with his favorite driver being, Jeff Gordon. With his experience in carpentry, he assisted with building and remodeling his children's homes. Joe enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time in the woods. Though the memories he held close to his heart were the ones that he spent with his family; he was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all. Joe married his wife, Doris L. Crounse on August 10, 1957 at St. Mary's Church in Schenectady. They recently celebrated 60 years of wonderful marriage. Survivors include his loving wife, Doris L. Kaczmarek; three children, Joseph Roy (Gloria) Kaczmarek, Mary Lou Kaczmarek and Claudia (Wayne) Fletcher; five grandchildren, Christopher Mattas, Matthew Mattas, Dr. Joseph Kaczmarek, Thomas Kaczmarek and Kristie Kaczmarek and four great grandsons, Jayce Palmer, Logan, Matthew and Joshua Mattas. Joe is also survived by two sisters, many nieces and nephews and his cherished cat, Stanley. Services will be held privately for the family.
