Harasymczuk, John R.
John R. Harasymczuk, 91, of Hallstead, PA passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017 at his home after an extended illness. He was born on October 16, 1925 in Bridgeport, CT, to the late Louis and Emilie (Gunther) Harasymczuk. John was raised on the family farm in Newtown, CT, with his Six siblings. He enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and proudly served in the Pacific theatre aboard the aircraft carrier USS Boxer. After serving his country, John attended the University of Connecticut, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture. John met his future wife, Teresa, in Washington, DC. After marrying, he returned to his love of country life with a farm in Susquehanna County, Pa where they raised their 5 children.
John is predeceased by his parents and all siblings except his youngest sister Mary Sakales, South Carolina. Also surviving are his Five children: Joan Gray, Encinitas, CA: Susan Harasymczuk, Long Beach, CA; Louis Harasymczuk (Christine), Montrose, PA; David Harasymczuk (Patty), Brackney, PA; and James Harasymczuk (MaryLou), Brackney, PA; and seven grandchildren: Nicholas Harasymczuk, Brian Harasymczuk (Jillian), Dr. Lisa Iucci (Gene), Rebecca Harasymczuk, Benjamin Harasymczuk, Christie Gray, Dana Happell (Ron).
John was a retiree of the Ozalid Corporation, but his true passion was being outdoors. He and Teresa continued their love for all things outdoors with beautiful flower gardens, prolific vegetable gardens, and they were particularly proud of his fish ponds. An avid fisherman and hunter, his children and grandchildren spent many cherished moments fishing and hunting with Dad and Grandpa.
