James Blackwood Obituary

BLACKWOOD, JAMES S.
65, of Leisure Way, Coventry, RI, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at home. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the husband of Linda A. (Stradone) Blackwood. They were married for thirty years. He was the son of the late Norman and Julia (McGraw) Blackwood.
James worked in maintenance for the US Postal Service for twenty years until retiring in 2005 and prior to that he worked at the VA Hospital, in Providence, RI for seven years. He was a US Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. He belonged to the VFW, American Legion Post, the Coventry/West Greenwich Elks Lodge #2285 and was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association.
Besides his wife he is survived by two stepchildren; Lynn M. Brook and Jaime M. Oliveira and her husband Gary, a daughter; Erin Bircher and her husband James, two brothers; Douglas Blackwood and Michael Blackwood, two sisters; Kathleen Blackwood and Julie Pearson and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother; Timothy Blackwood.
A funeral home service will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Gorton-Menard Funeral Home & Crematory, 721 Washington Street, Coventry, RI . Calling hours will be held prior from 9:30 to 11:00 am. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
