Gladys Mae Wilson, 101, Wyoming passed away at her home on Monday, Sept. 25, 2017.
Born in Hughestown, she was the daughter of the late Fred J. and Florence Blessing Leppart.
Educated in the Hughestown schools, she later worked as a seamstress in area garment factories. She led a busy life serving her community as the former mayor of Wyoming 1994-1998, Republican committee woman for over 30 years, perpetual member of the Wyoming Monument Association, Wyoming Woman's Club, and director of the Wyoming Free Library for over 20 years. As a member of Wyoming Methodist Church, she served as a trustee, joined various committees, their Women's Society, and volunteered at the Al Beech West Side Food Pantry.
Also preceding her in death were her husband, John Wilson, in 1994; brothers, Howard, Morlyn and Wilbert Leppart; and son, Commander Robert F. Coxe, USN, in 1994.
Surviving are her daughters, Barbara Swanek and husband, Franklin; Bonnie Cornell and companion, Douglas Trumbower; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A chapel service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Shrine Park, 1831 W. Eighth St., Carverton, with the Rev. Harriet Santos and the Rev. James Wert, of Wyoming United Methodist Church, officiating.
There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.
Arrangements are by Metcalfe-Shaver-Kopcza Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

Mayor Wilson was a very great lady. I count it a great blessing to have been in her company on various occasions. Now may she rest in the peace of her Lord and Saviour.

Dear Barbara, Bonnie, Patty and Family, Please know we are sending our deepest condolences and our thoughts and prayers are with you.
