Beulah was born October 25, 1923, in Edwards County, Illinois, a daughter of the late Charles and Sally (Clark) Knackmus. She married Maurice “Pete” Lawrence on May 7, 1943 and he preceded her in June of 1988. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Jerry Lawrence and wife Betty of Loxa, Illinois; two grandsons, Maurice Edward Lawrence and wife Sherry of Mattoon and Steven Douglas Lawrence and wife Tasha of Charleston; two great-grandchildren, Shay Lynn Lawrence and Shelby Dawn Lawrence; and a step-great-grandson, Justin Palmer. Beulah was also preceded by two brothers, Stuart and Lonnie Knackmus, and a sister, Vera Summerfield.
Beulah was a longtime member of the Moravian Church in West Salem. She was a charter employee and worked for many years as a packer at Champion Labs in West Salem. Prior to her employment with Champion Labs, Beulah held the important job of packing parachutes for WWII soldiers. Her embroidery needles were kept busy with her many needlework projects and aromas of delicious meals filled her kitchen. A Birds and Blossoms magazine was usually nearby and hummingbirds and cardinals were her favorite birds. Beulah loved her family dearly and was always delighted when they were all together. They have been gifted with many fond memories to treasure.
