I grew up a block away from Mardella. She was already a grandmother by then. I remember many sweet conversations in her living room. She had quite the talent for making a young person feel heard and important. I also remember sugar cubes with our tea parties, playing with her hair scarves, building a fort in the blue room, and frozen fruit cups. I hope I have as much grace and love for people as she did!
