I knew Shirley when my family and I attended St Luke's Church. She was such a kind and thoughtful person. The world will be a little sadder without her in it to brighten it up. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time. She will certainly be missed.

Shirley was a inspirational figure at Judeo-Christian Outreach Center where she has arranged for different groups from the church to prepare and serve meals to the homeless and those who are less fortunate that ourselves. She would always take time to listen to someone from the streets even if they had nothing to say but rather simply wanted to be heard.
Shirley and I would joke and often regaled us with one of her stories from the military. She was an institution at the Judeo-Christian Outreach Center, and when I learned of her passing I was deeply stunned but I know she loved all people no matter the background. She has earned her reward and I'm so very happy she will be enjoying it.... Goodbye my friend.

We had the esteemed pleasure of meeting and working with Shirley while stationed in VA Beach. We have never met a finer person. Shirley was the most kind, loving, funny and generous soul. A true living saint among us. We know she is in Heaven now making everyone laugh and probably trying to get some kind of community service projects going! Until we meet again dear sister, friend, sailor and true testament of God's love...

I met Chief Shirley on my second duty station in Scotland, I have just made RM3 and she had this comical side to her, as she came to tack on my crow with a sledge hammer dropping it on the floor before tacking my crow on she hit me good enough that it would never fall off. Shirley took me under her wing and taught me a lot about leadership, and I will never forget her kindness. Fair Winds and Following Seas.

I am so very sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. I was stationed with her and Denise in Roosey Roads, PR in the early 80's, and they opened their home to me while I was going to a school in Norfolk in '82. I will always remember Shirley as a warm, kind and compassionate friend, in addition to being an excellent sailor and mentor. My sincerest sympathies to Denise and the rest of her family.
