Frances was raised in Baltimore, MD, above a luncheonette run by her parents, Sam and Bessie Pollack. She waitressed during her teenage years and there met Leonard Winakur whom she would later marry after he returned from five years of service during WWll. She wrote him every day of his deployment.
Frances worked hard all her life: raising her two sons, Jerry and Michael; then beside her husband in his business. She stood by him during difficult times after he lost that business.
In 1977, she and Leonard moved to San Antonio, and Frances went to work in the internal medicine practice of her son, Dr. Jerald Winakur, where she was loved by many of his patients. She finally retired at age 80.
She then cared for Leonard at home as he descended into Alzheimer's dementia until his death, just past their 60th wedding anniversary.
In the last 8 years of her life she valiantly overcame a stroke and then a hip fracture. She was lovingly cared for in her home by Ms. Julie Navarro during her final two years. The family also wishes to thank her internist, Dr. John Galan, for his kindness and professionalism, as well as her stalwart San Antonio friends, Ms. Betty Van Greenby, Ms. Marsha Greenberg, and Ms. Norma Madrigal.
She is survived by her two sons, Jerry (Lee) and Mike (Gaye); her three grandchildren, Betsy Tontiplaphol, Emily Winakur and Adam Winakur; and her four great-grandchildren, Jonah, Sophie, Ella, and Malachi.
She will be missed by us all and remain in our memories.

Dear Jerry and Michael,
The Eisenberg family want to offer our sincere condolences on Fran's death. Rita and Bud always loved visiting San Antonio and Fran and the family. She was always so pleasant and I have fond memories of her visiting Bud and Rita as well as our home (Sandy and Pat). May you find comfort in knowing how much she loved her family.

Joyce and I send our most sincere condolences upon learning of Frances passing. We have such fond memories of Frances from the first time we met her at Jerry's office on Wurzbach in the Canavan Center. She always had a smile on her face and always had nothing but kind words to say. It was such a pleasure to grow our friendship through the years and we will always hold her dear in our hearts. May she rest in peace as she joins Leonard once again.
