On Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, Franklin Reakes Sr., (a.k.a. Homer and Binky), came to the end of his long battle with cancer and died peacefully at home in West Nanticoke.
He was born Feb. 10, 1952 in Nanticoke, a son of the late Wilson T. Reakes, Sr. and Geraldine Wolfe Reakes.
He attended the Northwest Area School District until his father and older brothers were called to serve in the armed forces. It was at this time that Frank began working to help support his family, a trait that stayed with him throughout his life. He will be remembered for always putting others before himself.
Prior to his illness, he was a hard working man who could be seen near his tack truck during his over 30 year employment with Pennsy Supply. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons when he wasn't at work. Frank enjoyed hunting and spending time at his cabin in the woods. He also liked to help his son at local asphalt race tracks, tinkering in his shed, playing the spoons to classic country music, and visiting family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leonard; also granddaughter, Gabrielle.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Deborah Shedlock Reakes; son, David Reakes and wife, Angela, Georgia; son, Franklin Jr. and wife, Erica, Reyburn; granddaughters, Caytlynne and Amber; grandsons, Brayden and Evan; two great-granddaughters; brothers, Wilson Jr. and wife, Winifred, Hunlock Creek; Raymond and wife, Anna, Texas; Michael and wife, Sharon, Nanticoke; sister, Ethel McCabe and husband, James, Hunlock Creek; numerous nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Thelma; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Hunlock Creek.
In lieu of flowers, it was Frank's request that donations be made to help children who are fighting cancer at Four Diamonds at Penn State Children's Hospital, 1249 Cocoa Ave., Suite 115, P.O. Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033.
