August 16, 1938 - December 12, 2017
On December 12, 2017, Ronald R. Hjelt passed away doing what he loved. He was born on August 16, 1938 in Butte, MT to Brynold and Miriam (Skut) Hjelt. He attended Butte High School, leaving in the 9th grade to work and provide for his family. On May 6, 1961, he married Arlene (Plute) Petersen. From that union, he had two children, Leann & Dale Hjelt. Even through a divorce, the two still remained great friends. From there, Ron married Kay (Spriggle) Hjelt in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Together they spent a lot of time traveling, working together, and enjoying each other’s company.
If there was one way to describe Ron, it would be that he was a man tough as iron. From a young age, he knew that it was work before play. That was one of the many great traits that he passed on to his family and everyone that he crossed paths with. He loved spending his off-time fishing, hunting with his favorite hunting partner, Lee Masters, and of course “shooting the bull” with a cup of coffee in his hand. Ron was a simple man with simple pleasures. He loved his bacon and eggs, his jeans and suspenders, and his toothpicks. But to Ron, there was nothing better than putting in a hard day’s work.
After retiring from Pacific Steel, Ron and his son Dale decided to start up H & H Trading Company. It has been up and running for about 12 years now, and to this day Ron never missed a beat. He not only took pride in his business, but also his employees, and customers. Ron and Dale built something from nothing, but to the both of them it was so much more than that.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Duane Hjelt. He is survived by his wife Kay Hjelt, children Leann (Tom) Loggins, Dale (Heidi) Hjelt, step children Beverly Porter, Cindy O’Connell, Mike (Shelly) Carper, and Tamie (Kevin) Kennedy. His grandchildren Dale and Shawnee Hjelt, and Levi Loggins. Jason (Terri) Gibson, Blaine (Mary) & Dennis (Amy) O’Connell, McKayla, Ricky, and Jenny Carper – and all extended family.
Funeral services will be on Friday, December 15th, at 11 AM at Dugan Dolan. There will be visitation at 10 AM. Memorials in memory of Ron may be made to Action Inc., Gary Loggins National Honor Society Scholarship Fund, or the Chelsea Baily Animal Shelter.
