DUNLOP, Margaret (nee Holford)
February 17, 1932– Nottingham, England
December 14, 2017 – Calgary, AB
Margaret, beloved wife of the late Robert Dunlop, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at the age of 85 years. Born in Nottingham, England to George and Mary Holford, Marg trained as a hairdresser, and operated her own successful hairdressing salon in Nottingham. With her usual pluck, courage and determination, Marg immigrated as a young woman to Edmonton in 1960. She soon made her way to the warmer climes of Calgary, where she found work at Norman's Hair Salon in the lower level of the old Chinook Mall. She was a talented, charming and friendly hair stylist, and she made many long-lasting friendships among her clientele. After many years of standing behind a salon chair, Marg set her sights on a sit-down job, taking on an administrative role at Gulf Oil Canada until her retirement. In 1980 Marg married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Dunlop. Their love thrived and shone brightly throughout the remainder of their lives together. They happily pursued a variety of leisure activities both as a couple and with their many friends: golfing at Earl Grey Golf Club, fishing in B.C., and snow-birding most winters down south in Palm Desert. Marg loved her ready-made family of three daughters and was loved right back by all of them, as well as by their children. Marg was a loyal friend and stepmom, a humorous and witty conversationalist, a passionate dog- lover and a determined grower of dinner- plate dahlias, and she will be dearly missed by both her family and friends. She is survived by her stepdaughters and their husbands, Karen and Mason Williams of Oregon, Kathy Dunlop and Rollin Brant of Vancouver, and Kim Dunlop and Tim Dawson of Toronto. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elizabeth Brant and her husband Aaron Cumming, Alex Brant and his wife Robin Smiley and Sebastian Sage. She will also be lovingly remembered by her cousin, John Holford of Nottingham, England. Invitations are forthcoming for a memorial party, which will be held in February for Marg's friends and family. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Marg's favorite charity, the Alberta Cancer Foundation. The family would especially like to thank Marg's wonderful neighbors for the generous and loving support they provided to both Bob and Marg in their final years. We would also like to thank Marg's kind and supportive homecare aides as well Dr. Roman and the staff of Unit 94 of the Rocky View Hospital. In living memory of Margaret Dunlop, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

I was so sad to hear about Margaret's passing! She was one of the last of an old group of friends that my mom & dad belonged to.We had a great conversation on the phone about a month or so ago, one of many talks over the last couple of years. Marg was so easy to chat with and a kind, caring, interesting woman. She & Bob made a great team and I know they had fine, exciting life together. She sure missed him. They invited my mother, brother and myself over for Christmas dinner the year my dad died. It was a kind gesture and appreciated.
Margaret was brave and stoical & did little complaining. She had a few health issues but she was always fun to talk to & we had many laughs. I'll miss our calls.
Marg thought the world of her three daughters and her grand-kids. She loved them and was loved in return. Who could ask for more.I'm sure we'll all have warm thoughts of Margaret over the Christmas Season and fine memories of her, for life.
