PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - Mary (Gallo) Franceware of Portsmouth, N.H. died on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at St. Ann's Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility in Dover, N.H. with her family at her bedside.
Mary was the youngest child of Michael and Michelina (Bonadia) Gallo. Mary was born May 12, 1922 and raised in the North End of Portsmouth. Mary attended Portsmouth schools and worked for many years at the Continental Shoe on McDonough Street where she made lifelong friends.
In 1954 Mary married the love of her life, Eugene (Beef) Franceware from El Paso, Texas. Mary and Beef and their two children lived on both coasts during his career in the U.S. Navy. They made some wonder friends along the way and were able to visit their families often. In 1964, Mary and their two children moved back to Portsmouth while Beef did two tours in Vietnam. Beef retired from the Navy in 1970 and they made their home on Cornwall Street for 35 years.
Mary is survived by her two children, Rogene (James) Goans of Portsmouth and Michael (Deborah) Franceware of Lakeside, Calif; two grandchildren, Danielle Franceware and her partner Parrish Addison of Las Vegas, Nev. and Jeremiah (Brandy) Goans of Knoxville, Tenn.; many nieces and nephews, cousins and their families.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 56 years, Eugene Edward Franceware in 2010 and her six siblings. Brother Basil (Jenny) Gallo of Massachusetts: sisters and their spouses; Angelina (Joseph) Geraci; Jenny (Jack) Gobbi; Landa (Joseph)Baka; Josephine (Mundo) Zoffoli; and Pat (Rae) Washburn. Also, her very special sister/cousin Rose Paola Risden.
The family would like to thank St. Ann's Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility for their excellent and compassionate care of their mother for the last three years.
May she rest in peace. We will love and miss her always.
SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth, NH 03801. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

I have so many fond memories of family gatherings that we had at Aunt Mary's and Uncle Beef's home. We had a lot of laughs, very few debates, and good food. She will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
